Scenario: A room contains a male smoker and a female non-smoker. The smoker enriches the air in the room with nicotine and condensate. He smokes twice: from the cigarette and from the air in the room. The non-smoker is a passive smoker: she breathes the air in the room. Passive smokers are more prone than smokers to the disorders consequent upon smoking because they have not formed the antibodies created by smoking. Thus it may happen that the passive smoker dies of cancer while the smoker remains healthy. A filter does not provide any assistance against the harmful substances in the air within the room; a filter merely reduces the harmful substances which the smoker absorbs on inhaling. If the air in the room is to contain fewer harmful substances, the only remedy is to use mild tobaccos without a filter.
