A wheel drum brake has internal brake shoes which are hinged at one end and in contact with the brake operating cylinder at the other end. An adjuster rod (1) is attached to the free brake shoe end so that it receives axial motion when the brake is applied. A clamp ring (5) together with two hinged levers (2) and a compression spring (6) form also part of the brake gap adjuster assembly. Wear on the friction pads is compensated by advancing the rod (1) through the clamp ring (5) which normally produces a non return function. When the brake gap is to small due to heat expansion of the brake drum (17), the hinged lever (4) loses its locking action on the clamp ring (5), thus the rod (1) is free to return to its original position.
|
