PURPOSE:To reduce or prevent danger caused by erroneous diagnosis or the erroneous operation of a stick needle by providing a means to graphically display the relation between the scan direction of an ultrasonic picture and the direction of a probe. CONSTITUTION:An echo signal from a probe 1 is amplified by an amplifier circuit 2, inputted to an analog/digital converter 3 and converted to a digital signal. Picture data outputted from the converter 3 are inputted to a memory 4 for picture display, successively stored in correspondence to a memory address from an address generation circuit 5 and outputted to a synthesizing circuit 7. Picture data from the memory 4, scan marks M1 and M2 from a scan marker 6 and picture crossing marks SL1 and SL2 from a picture cross marker 12 are mixed and outputted to a digital/analog converter 8 by the synthesizing circuit 7. The picture data from the converter 8 are displayed on a display 9. Thus, since the relation between the direction of the probe 1 and the scan direction of the ultrasonic picture is displayed by using a graphic, geometrical relation between an observing tomograph layer and the probe 1 can be intuitively recognized. |
