<p>PURPOSE:To oxidize and eliminate sulfur dioxide which remains inside a cylinder when an engine is operated continuously for a specified time by stopping the engine operation after an EGR valve is closed only for the specified time in the case of stopping the operation. CONSTITUTION:At the time of stopping an engine, a driver operates a key switch, then, a stop signal generator 23 generates a stop signal. At this time a computer 22 closes and EGR valve 25 with an actuator 26 for a specified time without stopping the engine rapidly. After the lapse of specified time, the computer 22 controls an actuator 21 for cutting fuel of a mechanical governor 18 to stop fuel supply made with a fuel injection pump 15. As a result, during the specified time of continuous operation, sulfur dioxide remaining inside a cylinder is oxidated and eliminated. Thus, corrosion abrasion inside the cylinder caused by residual sulfur dioxide is prevented.</p> |
