FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of the deformation and orientation disturbance of a smectic layer by sealing a ferroelectric liquid crystal in the spacing between two sheets of substrates to form a liquid crystal panel and adhering a reinforcing member to this liquid crystal panel. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal panel is formed by disposing two sheets of glass plates 1 formed with transparent electrode patterns so as to face each other with the electrodes positioned on the inner side and joining the glass plates by using an adhesive sealing material 3 via spacers 22, then by sealing the ferroelectric liquid crystal 2 into the spacing held by the spacers 22. A polarizing plate 4 is adhered to the front side and a polarizing plate 5 with a reflecting plate is adhered to the rear side. A circuit board 8 is adhered to the rear surface of the polarizing plate 5. This circuit board 8 is an aluminum substrate as the reinforcing member and has sufficient rigidity. The leader electrodes of the liquid crystal panel and the circuit board 8 are electrically connected by a flexible substrate 6. The generation of a deflection in the liquid crystal panel is obviated and the deterioration in the display quality is prevented in this way even if a stress is generated in the normal direction of the surface when the surface of the liquid crystal panel is pressed or the panel falls and collides in a horizontal state.
