In a materials testing method employing measurements of the magnetic flux induced in a sample of the material under test by an applied field, an operating period is divided into n (i.e. 2 or more) intervals. During these intervals, determinations of the intensity of the applied field are carried out to give n values that are formed into an n-dimensional vector representing field intensity. A corresponding set of n values of the flux induced in the material is obtained and formed into a further n-dimensional vector representing induced flux. Analysis of the vectors yields information on structural and mechanical properties of the material. A computer 8 controls units 1, 3, 6, 7 via data-buses 9, 10 in equipment suitable for carrying out the method. <IMAGE>
