Areas which are not to be coated during a hot-dip galvanising treatment of ferrous parts are masked by components made of PTFE. When the bodywork of a motor car is to be hot-dip galvanised, the blind hole (11), the thread (10), and the countersunk bore (12) are all masked by the PTFE sleeve (13). A hot-dip treatment at 460 deg C will zinc plate all other surfaces and will perform a soldered joint between panel (1) and threaded insert (7). ADVANTAGE - This saves the cost of re-machining and saves all subsequent fettling.
