The thin-film magnetic recording head of the invention is designed to be passed over the storage layer (S) of a recording medium (2) and to magnetize it in the vertical plane. The head includes two outer magnet limbs (9,11) plus, located between them, a central magnet limb (10), each magnet limb having a magnetic pole (P1, P2, P3). The magnetic fields arising at the magnetic poles (P1, P2, P3) produce, at the surface of the storage layer (S), pre-determined maximum field strengths (H1, H2, H3). According to the invention, ¦H1¦ > ¦H2¦ > ¦H3¦ applies, only the maximum field strength H1 associated with the leading magnet limb (9) being capable of at least nearly entirely remagnetizing the storage layer (S) over its whole depth. |
