Coal-in-oil mixtures having controlled sedimentation properties and a sufficiently low viscosity for said mixtures to be transportable over long distances in conventional oil pipelines are prepared by agglomerating water saturated coal particles with 2 to 5 percent additional free water, and 0.1 to 5 percent of an oil-insoluble, nonionic surfactant, in a carrier oil. The finished mixture should have a maximum viscosity of about 300 centipoise at 40°F and is readily separable into its constituent coal and oil components.
|
