PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymer effective in scale prevention by copolymerizing acrylic acid, allylsulfonic acid and 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropane-1-sulfonic acid at a specified molar ratio. CONSTITUTION:When copolymerizing acrylic acid, allylsulfonic acid and 2- acrylamide-2-methylpropane-1-sulfonic acid, copolymerization is performed in such a proportion that the molar ratio of allylsulfonic acid and 2-acrylamide-2- methylpropane-1-sulfonic acid incorporated in the copolymer is 1% or more and the total thereof is 2-30% respectively and acrylic acid is the residual part. The mol.wt. of the copolymer is 100-50,000 and the copolymer having a range of 2,000-15,000mol.wt. is especially preferable. Thereby preventive effect especially effective in inhibition of calcium phosphate-base scales is obtained.
