A method for making a sintered part by compacting and then sintering a powder feed is provided, wherein the powder feed used is a powder mixture of a composite powder, obtained by coating the surface of each particle of a powder material e.g. Fe defining a matrix of the sintered part with a metal defining a second phase e.g. Cu, with a foliated powder formed of the same metal as the second phase or a metal capable of being alloyed with the second phase. A compact obtained from the powder feed is retained in an oxidizing atmosphere and then sintered in a reducing atmosphere at a temperature lower than the melting point of copper or a copper alloy. Prior to oxidization, the compact may be pre-sintered in a reducing atmosphere. |
