PURPOSE:To obtain a diamine useful as a starting material for a polyurea type RIM elastomer or flexible or rigid foam, etc., by giving thereto a structure having a polytetramethylene ether skeleton and a terminal amino group. CONSTITUTION:A diamine of formula I (wherein R<1> and R<6> are each a 1-12C aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon group; R<2> to R<5> are each H or a 1-10C aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon group, and they have 0-10 carbon atoms in total; n is 1-100; and y are each 1-20) is used as a polyoxyalkylenediamine useful as a starting material for a plastics such as a polyurea, an epoxy resin, a polyamide or a polyimide. To produce this diamine, a polyoxyalkylenediol of formula II is condensed with an active hydrogen-containing nitrogen compound such as NH3 or a prim. or sec amine in the presence of a hydrogenation/dehydrogenation catalyst (e.g. a catalyst comprising Ni, Co or the like supported on diatomaceous earth). |
