The liquid crystal layer has a parallel at homoedrope boundary orientation and a twisted angle between 0 and 90 deg. Several layers compensate for optical set differences of liquid crystal layer, given by d.delta n it has at least one device allowing linear polarisation, arranged so that light can pass at least once through it, surface entering or leaving liquid crystal layers. To achieve a high contrast and/or high light intensity and/or a high field or view angle independency of contrasts and/or chromocity values the angle in constructed with directry of liquid crystal molecules on the substrate surface at the incident side of the polarisation device.
