摘要 |
PURPOSE:To obtain the nonlinearity equiv. approximately to the nonlinearity of glass added with semiconductor fine particles by embedding a semiconductor thin film parallel with a substrate in at least either of a core and clad. CONSTITUTION:Quartz glass films of a buffer layer 2, a clad layer 5 and a core layer 3 are deposited on the substrate 1. At least one layer of the semiconductor thin film 4 parallel with the substrate 1 is embedded in at least one of the core 3 and the clad 5. The semiconductor thin film 4 is required to be formed to the film thickness at which the scattering loss at the light wavelength to be used is negligible. An absorption end is generated near the wavelength corresponding to the forbidden band width of the semiconductor thin film 4 by embedding the semiconductor thin film in such a manner. The high optical nonlinearity possessed by the semiconductor, the ease of the structure design possessed by a quartz waveguide and the goodness of the connectability with optical fibers are obtd. in combination. |
