A process for preparing a catalyst for the reductive removal of nitrogen oxides is described which is characterised in that a solution of a vanadium compound, in which the valency of the vanadium has been reduced to less than 5 by reducing a pentavalent vanadium compound in the presence of a reducing substance and a solvent, sulphuric acid or an ammonium salt of a sulphur-oxygen acid, barium sulphate, titanic acid and a clay mineral are mixed to produce a clay-like product, the clay-like product obtained is moulded into a honeycomb structure, and the clay-like product formed is then calcined to produce a honeycomb catalyst. According to the process of the invention, a catalyst suitable for industrial purposes is obtained which has good mouldability and abrasion resistance, has a high NOx reduction activity even at high temperatures and is able to keep the SO2 oxidation activity at a low level and is further able to keep the ammonia concentration (if ammonia is used as a reducing substance) at a low level in a waste gas downstream of the denitrification. |
