The invention relates to a guidance or automatic steering device for self-propelled vehicles, and especially agricultural, horticultural or viticultural machines intended to follow the rows of plantations. This automatic guidance device is of the type comprising at least one lateral feeler 2, and means for control of the steering of the vehicle, slaved to the orders from the said feeler 2. According to the invention, this device includes means for moving the feeler 2 with respect to the vehicle, in the same sense as the latter, in a way which is substantially proportional to the deflection angle of the steering. The means of moving the feeler 2 consist of a longitudinal member 3 mounted so as to slide on a framework 1, in the transverse direction with respect to the direction of progress of the vehicle. This longitudinal member 3 is subjected to the action of a compensation rod 14 controlled by a lever 15 slaved to the steering control means. <IMAGE>
