2-(2'-Nitrobenzoyl)-1,3-cyclohexandione derivs. of formua (I), having herbicidal activity, are prepd. from cyclohexane-1,3-dione derivs.and e.g. 2-nitro-benzoyl halide. In (I), R1 is H or C1-4 alkyl; R2 is H, C1-4 alkyl or R9-O-CO wherein Ra is C1-4 alkyl; or R1 and R2 together are alkylene(C3-6); R3, R4, R5 and R6 are each H or C1-4 alkyl; R7 and R8 are each H, halogen, C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy, OCF3, cyano, nitro, C1-4 haloalkyl or R6SOn wherein n is 0, 1 or 2, and R6 is C1-4 alkyl, phenyl or benzyl.
