摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the liquid crystal electrooptical device of a high transmittance and contrast by combining a rubbing method and an electrical orientation method and optimizing an orienting material. CONSTITUTION:An ethanol soln. is applied on a substrate 1 provided with an electrode 2 and an insulating film 3 and is subjected to ethanol leaning after calcination, then to calcination again. Two sheets of the substrates 1, 9 obtd. in such a manner are rubbed by cloths and are so combined that the rubbing directions are counterparallel with the upper and lower substrates 1, 9. A liquid crystal 5 is charged in the clearance between the substrates. Square waves are impressed to the device formed in such a manner to execute the electrical orientation treatment. The opening angle of the liquid crystal molecules is about 40 deg. in this way and the display of the high transmittance and high contrast is executed under crossed nicols.
