<p>Drive belt tensioning device comprising a tensioning roller with which the belt cooperates, a return spring for moving said roller when tension on the belt decreases, and damping means for damping vibrations liable to develop in the belt.
<??>The side wall of one of the chambers (43) which comprises the device is a diaphragm (44) made of an elastomeric material such as rubber, in the general shape of a bell, without a spring, the return spring associated with the other chamber (27) being represented by a helical spring (25) working under compression and prestressed in its rest condition.
