PURPOSE:To allow a final boundary between a ROM area and a user area to coinside with a previously formed boundary between the ROM area and a temporary user area by utilizing a phase change due to the irradiation of an optical beam to form the user area. CONSTITUTION:The 1st area (ROM area) 1 recording ROM information as ruggedness 3 and the 2nd area (a writable user area, i.e. temporary user area) 2 forming a spiral continuous groove 4 for guiding an optical beam are formed on a disk base. Then, a layer consisting of a phase changing type optical recording material is formed on the surface of the 1st and 2nd areas 1, 2 on the base and the surface of the layer is irradiated with an optical beam to change the phase of the phase changing type optical recording material on the irradiated part. Then the sputter etching of the 1st and 2nd areas 1, 2 is executed to remove the optical recording material formed on the part other than the irradiated part. Consequently, the final user area can be formed by changing the phase of the recording film material so that the ROM area previously formed on the base coincides with the boundary between the ROM part and the temporary user area 2 formed by engraving only the groove 4. |
