PURPOSE:To align the optical axes of waveguides with each other with high accuracy by easy operation wherein each waveguide part substrate is only made to abut on a reference surface by dividing waveguides formed on a single base body substrate into respective waveguides. CONSTITUTION:A couple of straight waveguides 15A and 15B which extend in parallel at an interval are formed on the quadrilateral base body 20 whose size is equal to the total size of respective waveguide substrates 11 - 13, and an independent curved waveguide 15C is formed outside them. Then the base body substrate 20 is cut at two positions where the waveguides 15A - 15C are divided at right angles to the optical axes of the waveguides to obtain the individual waveguide substrates 11 - 13. Therefore, the substrates 11 - 13 are only arranged abutting on the reference surface 10A provided on a fixed base 10 to align the optical axes of all the respective straight waveguides on the three divided substrates 11 - 13 with one another, and the waveguide substrates 11 and 13 for input and output are fixed to the fixed base 10 in this state. Thus, the substrates are only installed on the fixed base 10 having the reference surface 10A to align the optical axes with one another, and any special aligning operation is not necessary. |
