PURPOSE:To obtain a diamond in a short time under low pressure by using a compound having a crystal structure similar to diamond as a nucleus in the presence of a specific metallic catalyst and applying prescribed temperature and pressure to carbon black. CONSTITUTION:A metallic catalyst containing Fe, Ni, Cr, Co, Mn and Ba and a compound having crystal structure similar to diamond, e.g. boron carbide, diamond-like carbon, Si and SiC are prepared beforehand. The compound is used as a nucleus and a carbon source such as carbon black is kneaded with the above metallic catalyst. The kneaded mixture is maintained under 100-300 atm at 1500-2000 deg.C in an atmosphere of Ar, N2, etc., for a prescribed period. |
