Device for immobilising an unstable load, particularly logs, placed in a vehicle with an essentially flat bottom, such as a lorry or wagon, by means of flexible joining elements, particularly straps, chains, cables or the like, fixed on either side of the vehicle and passing over the load. Device characterised in that it is composed: - on the one hand, of means 6 for winding the joining elements 7, which means are distributed along a first lateral edge 4 of the vehicle 1 and are associated respectively with fixing and clamping means 8 mounted on the second lateral edge 9 of the vehicle 1, and - on the other hand, of pivoting drive means 10, 10', 15 provided with fastening members 16 interacting respectively with the end 17 of a joining element 7 which is wound over a winding means 6, and capable of moving, in passing over the load to be immobilised, between a first position, or rest position, in which the fastening members 16 are located in line with the winding means 6, and a second position, or fastening position, in which these members 16 are located in line with the fixing and clamping means 8. <IMAGE>
