CATALYST FOR OZONE DECOMPOSITION

PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst having a high ozone decomposition rate and durable under severe conditions by composing the catalyst of the oxides of alkali metals and/or alkaline earth metals and manganese dioxide. CONSTITUTION:An ozone decomposition catalyst is formed into a binary catalyst such as Na2O-MnO2 and MgO-MnO2 or a ternary catalyst such as Na2-MnO2- TiO2 and MgO-MnO2-clay. Both of them contain the oxides of alkali metals and/or alkaline earth metals and manganese dioxide with titanium dioxide added to the latter. Such catalysts are excellent in the ability to remove the ozone, suffering little performance deterioration even when used in severe conditions such as a high ozone concentration and areal velocity.
