Air-type separator comprising guide vanes positioned along the generatrices of an imaginary cylinder of vertical axis, a rotor placed coaxially inside said imaginary cylinder and having vertical blades at regular intervals around its periphery, and a central outlet orifice through which is sucked the gas stream laden with particles whose dimensions are less than a predetermined dimension. To improve the performance of a separator of this type, the guide vanes 36 are adjustable and the blades 28 of the rotor define between themselves channels whose cross section increases from the exterior towards the interior of the rotor, with the result that the centrifugal forces and drag forces acting on the particles whose dimensions are equal to said predetermined dimension balance each other along practically the whole length of said channels. <IMAGE>
