Filter insert, in particular of a parallelepipedal shape, comprising a multiplicity of pleat walls arranged in zigzag-shaped pleating for a medium to be filtered passing through the insert in the direction from one edge region of the zigzag pleating to the opposite edge region of the pleating, comprising a material permeable for the medium to be filtered having island-shaped projections produced by embossing protruding from each pleat wall in the direction towards an adjacent pleat wall, which projections extend in the direction of motion of the medium and have a length exceeding their width, the projections of adjacent pleat walls abutting each other for spacing and stiffening and the abutting projections of two pleat walls joined by a pleat edge increasing in height in the direction towards the opposite pleat edge and at least one thread (39) being provided which stabilises the filter insert (11) by connecting respective adjacent pleat edges (35), which thread lies against pleat edges (35) and is essentially orientated perpendicularly to the pleat edges (35). <IMAGE>
