Acidic polyester resin (I) is prepd. by; (A) preprepn. of prepolymer having 30-150 of OH value, which is prepd. by reacting org. acid monomer mixt. having at least 2 reactive carboxyl gp. comprisign 5-30 wt.% of straight aliphatic org. acid monomer, 95-60 wt.% of para aromatic carboxylic acid and less than 10 wt.% of ortho or meta aromatic carboxylic acid with at least 2 valent alcohol or its mixt. in state of 1.1-1.5 of alcohol/acid equi. valence ratio; (B) reacting the prepolymer with 10-40 wt.% of the acid mixt. comprising 5-40 wt.% of phenylindane dicarboxylic acid and 60-90 wt.% of trimelitic anhydride. (I) has 20-120 of acid value, 1000-4000 of No. ave. Mw, 1- 2 branch site in resin polymer and 2-3 of total reactive COOH gp.
