PURPOSE: To accurately control toner concentration by comparing the ratio of the reflectance of a toner adhesive area to the reflectance of a toner non- adhesive area with a control ratio setting point by utilizing a reflectance sensing device. CONSTITUTION: The toner adhesive area and the toner non-adhesive area are formed on an image receiving material 10 in the device. A 1st signal corresponding to the reflectance of the toner adhesive area is generated, a 2nd signal corresponding to the reflectance of the toner non-adhesive area is generated, and a 3rd signal expressing the ratio of the 1st and the 2nd signals is generated. Then, the control ratio setting point is calculated in accordance with the kind of the sensing device 23 to be used or the current reflectance in the toner non- adhesive area and compared with the 3rd signal, so that developing toner quantity is adjusted based on the comparison. Thus, a toner patch control system which acts to self-compensate to development with high optical density, brings an exact result to the toner having high reflectance and brings the exact result regardless of the reflectance of a specified photoconductor 10 being used and the deterioration of the reflectance of the photoconductor 10 is obtained. |
