METHOD OF MANUFACTURING SPLIT RING SPRING FOR SNAP FASTENER

The split ring spring (30) for snap fasteners has an interrupted circular strip of resilient material which has confronting oposite ends, each with a burr (29). The burrs extend in a direction parallel to the imaginary central axis of the interrupted circular strip. A length of resilient material is fed transversely across a mandrel and then held on it. The strip is then bent around the mandrel, producing an interrupted resilient circular strip. The strip is held in a place by moving a shaping punch radially inward towards the mandrel to grip a portion of the strip. Both the shaping punch surface holding the strip and the mandrel are flat.
