Method for measuring the length of filamentous textile material which is wound as a yarn sheet onto a warp (loom) beam, in particular onto a dye (dyeing) beam, in which during the winding a pressing-on roller acts on the beam lap, to which a measuring device is connected. In order to improve a method of the type mentioned at the beginning in such a way that exact measurement of the length of the filamentous textile material is guaranteed even if due to the wrapping yarn or to the rotating beam lap a slip-free rotary drive of the measuring device is no longer guaranteed, it is designed in such a way that use is made as measuring instrument of a position pick-up (encoder) which detects the respective lap radius and respectively transmits a measurement pulse when the lap radius has increased by a predetermined value, that a rotary position transducer driven by the warp beam transmits a predetermined number of counting pulses per revolution of the warp beam, that an arithmetic unit uses the counting pulses transmitted between two measurement pulses to calculate a part length of the lap circumference, and that the arithmetic unit continuously adds all the calculated part lengths and displays them.
