<p>PURPOSE:To prevent an automatic scanning range from being set beyond the movable range of a reading head, by dividing the coordinate value between two readout range specifying marks by a pitch value and driving the reading head by a specific distance when a remainder is generated by the division. CONSTITUTION:In registers 86 and 88, XY coordinate values P1 and P2 of readout range specifying marks P1 and P2 are set. The contents of the registers 86 and 88 are sent to an arithmetic circuit 90 to perform calculation P=P2-P1. The value P is sent to an arithmetic circuit 92 to perform calculation P/pitch value=A by the pitch value preset in the circuit 92. When the value P is not divisible by the pitch value, the remainder is carried up to send the carried-up value B to an arithmetic circuit 94. The circuit 94 solves P3=Bx pitch value +P1 and PM=P3-P2. The value PM is sent to a motor control circuit 96 and the reading head is moved in a direction Y by the value PM.
