MANUFACTURE OF NICKEL-CADMIUM STORAGE BATTERY

PURPOSE:To obtain a high-performance paste type cadmium negative electrode requiring no chemical conversion process by adding metal cadmium powder as the preliminary charge quantity to an active material mainly made of cadmium oxide or cadmium hydroxide. CONSTITUTION:A paste type cadmium negative electrode holding a mixed layer of an active material mainly made of cadmium oxide powder or cadmium hydroxide powder and metal cadmium powder containing metal magnesium as the preliminary charge quantity on a conducting core body and a nickel positive electrode are stored in a battery container face to face via a separator. An alkaline electrolyte is filled in the battery container, and the metal magnesium contained in metal cadmium in a battery is converted into magnesium hydroxide. A high-performance nickel-cadmium storage battery using a paste type cadmium electrode made of metal cadmium and requiring no chemical conversion is obtained.
