PURPOSE:To discriminate the presence of an ink ribbon, the hue of a color band and a ribbon end by detecting the front end, hue detecting band and the end detecting band of the ink ribbon by a single photosensor, counting the number of the stepping of a stepping motor by a step counter and comparing and arithmetically operating the data of the counting and the data of a table. CONSTITUTION:A discriminating section 23 has a table 24 having a presence-absence discriminating value discriminating the presence-absence of an ink ribbon 1, a hue discriminating value and a ribbon-end discriminating value, and is composed of the table 24 and a comparison arithmetic circuit 20 comparing and arithmetically operating each data of the table 24 and a data from a step counter 17. The absence of the ink ribbon 1 is discriminated when an output from a photosensor 21 is at Low even when the step counter 17 counts the specified number of stepping stored in the presence discriminating value of the table 24 regarding the discrimination of the presence of the ink ribbon 1. The hue of the color bands 2a-2c of the ink ribbon 1 and a ribbon end are discriminated in such a manner that hue detecting bands 3a-3c and a ribbon-end detecting band 9 are detected by the photosensor 21 and the data of the step counter 17 and the corresponding data of the table 24 are compared by the comparison arithmetic circuit 20. |
