摘要 PURPOSE:To diagnose the engine which does not operate by itself quickly and accurately by measuring the amount of HC during the cranking of the engine which does not operate by itself, and judging the faulty system based on the rate of inclusion. CONSTITUTION:By probe 1, a battery voltage (a), battery charging and discharging current (b), a primary voltage (c) of ignition coils, a secondary voltage (d), and the like are detected. The amount of HC in exhausted gas during the cranking of the engine which does not operate by itself is measured by an exhausted gas sampling probe 4 and an HC tester 5. Excessively small or large amount of fuel supply and abnormality in an ignition system are judged by a computer 10 provided with a CPU 12, an RAM 13 for operation, an ROM for programming, and the like through an I/O 6, based on whether the rate of inclusion of HC is lower than the lower limit reference value or higher than the higher limit reference value. Therefore the engine which does not operate by itself can be diagnosed quickly and accurately without assumption. If the amount of CO is concurrently measured together with HC, more accurate judgment can be accomplished.
