PURPOSE: To make a spring characteristic changeable by defining a part of plural sealed fluid chambers with a elastomer member, and installing such a means as individually controlling the flow characteristics of a fluid in these fluid chambers. CONSTITUTION: The spring characteristics of this spring are changed as each function of elastic characteristics of respective relative positions of those of first, second, third and fourth electrodes 34, 40, 44, 50 and four elastomer springs 22, 26, 28 and 32. The flow resistance of a fluid in a specified portion in a fluid chamber 24 at a certain moment depends on a voltage signal to be fed to the relative positions of both he first and second electrodes 34 and 40 of a specified position of the fluid chamber 24. Likewise the flow characteristics of the fluid in the specified position of a fluid chamber 30 at a certain moment depends on the voltage signal to be fed to both the third and fourth electrodes 44 and 45 and the relative position of the third and fourth electrodes 44 and 50 at the specified position of the fluid chamber 30. Thus if the flow resistance of an electro-rheological fluid in both the fluid chambers 24 and 30 is controlled, the soft spring rate and maximum load supporting capacity of a spring 10 can be secured. |
