In order to protect a sealing ring (2), intended for producing a plug-in connection of pipes, against the attack of aggressive media, e.g. against chlorinated or aromatic hydrocarbons, said ring exhibits, on the sub-region of the outer casing of its elastic core ring (1) which is exposed to the attack by media, a protective coating (3) which is resistant to aggressive media, e.g. consisting of PTFE. In place of a connection, produced by complex and costly adhesive bonding or vulcanisation, between the elastic cone ring (1) and the protective coating (3), said protective coating (3) has, according to the invention, at least one axially arresting retaining part (9) which effects and ensures the connection, in a manner which is reliable in terms of mounting and permanent functioning, between these two parts of the sealing ring (2). A sealing ring (2) which is resistant to aggressive media and can be simply fabricated in this manner also protects in the long term - in conjunction with the pipe material suitable for this purpose, e.g. stoneware pipes - the groundwater supplies, which are essential for drinking-water supply, from contamination by hazardous toxic substances, for example by chlorinated hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, dioxins or the like. <IMAGE>
