The leaf 7 is inserted, in the closed position, between the vertical edges 3, 4 of an opening to be blocked. A slideway 29 of driven gear 23 slides with respect to intermediate gear 24 which slides in turn on a slideway 27 of support gear 21. The sliding means 31, 32 of the intermediate gear are external to one another and are offset with respect to one another in the transverse direction and in the longitudinal direction. A thrust cylinder acting on a toggle joint 39, 41 holding the support gear 21 firstly disengages the rear edge 17 of the leaf. Then a thrust cylinder 51 causes the leaf 7 to slide with respect to the support gear 21 to free the groove 11 from a rib 9 then to disengage the front edge 12 by virtue of a finger 18 of the leaf which is engaged in a slideway 19, whilst an arm 36 pivots outwards. Use for the purpose of compactness, accuracy, ease of manufacture, freedom in the choice of trajectory of the leaf. <IMAGE>
