The arrangement is mounted on the end of a vehicle drive axle. It contains a tone wheel with a number of radially protruding teeth and devices which couple the tone wheel to rotate with the axle shaft. A casing rotatably mounted in a housing enclosing the shaft has devices on its outer end for coupling to the tone wheel and on its inner end for coupling to an axle drive bevel wheel for rotation of the casing. A sensor mounted in the housing wall near the periphery of the tone wheel, and sepd. from the wheel by a defined air gap, detects the passage of the teeth when the casing and tone wheel are driven by the bevel wheel. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for anti-lock braking system. Likelihood of sensor damage is overcome by mounting sensor inboard of wheel in differential housing.
