PURPOSE: To obtain the subject particulate composition capable of imparting excellent flexibility to fabric during laundering by compounding a specific amount of a specified nonionic surfactant with a fabric softening clay, and regulating the moisture content of the composition. CONSTITUTION: This particulate fabric-softening composition capable of improving fabric-softening properties is obtained by spraying one or more kinds of nonionic surfactants wherein the nonionic surfactants preferably exist as a cloudy phase at 1% concentration in water in the temperature range of 0-80 deg.C on a fabric softening clay, preferably smectite clay, while regulating the weight ratio of the clay to nonionic surfactants so as to be (2:3)-(20:1), and drying and regulating the moisture content of the composition measured by the water loss at 135 deg.C so as to be 7.5-12 wt.%. Good flexibility is imparted to fabric during the laundry by formulating the composition with a detergent-activating material (e.g. a surfactant). |
