Microcrystalline oxides having well-defined properties can be obtained by a system for the thermal decomposition of a liquid aerosol from organic or inorganic salts in different solvents. The system comprises a sprayer which delivers to two stoves at different temperature in order to separate the evaporation of solvent from the decomposition of solids. The temperature of the first stove is 100-150 degree C while the second is determined by the decomposition temperature of the salt. During the process the aerosol is caused to flow by means of a vacuum system and collected at the end of the stoves through an electrostatic separator. The oxide particles obtained are generally of a form and size which can be controlled, between 0.01-5 μm in diameter. This system can be applied to any type of oxide, whether simple or compound, such as: ferrites, spinels, perovskites and superconducting oxides. <IMAGE>
