Transportable, shielded containers containing the waste and packed in a pressure vessel (1) are used to prepare radioactive waste for final storage. All gaps inside the pressure vessel are completely filled with packing (8). When completely filled, with no gaps, the internal space is hermetically sealed against the outside. The pressure vessel is covered on the inside with a radiation protection coating (4) and an inner coating (6) to protect it against mechanical damage. The outside is given a corrosion protection coating (5) and an outer protective jacket (7). The pressure vessel closes the containers of radioactive waste off fully hermetically on the outside. No corrosion or mechanical damage can occur even in a wet environment or on shaking, e.g. through earthquakes. |
