Steel sheeting coated with a polyester resin film, in particular for drawn-and-ironed cans, and process for the production thereof

The invention relates to steel sheeting coated with a polyester resin film, in particular for the production of drawn-and-ironed cans, in which one side of the steel sheeting, which forms the inside of the drawn-and-ironed can and has first been coated at least with chromium oxide hydrate, is coated with a copolyester resin film which has been prepared by a process known per se from a polyester resin film comprising from 75 to 95 mol% of polyethylene terephthalate and from 5 to 25 mol% of a polyester resin obtained by esterification of at least one saturated polycarboxylic acid by means of at least one saturated polyalcohol, and the other side of the steel sheeting, which forms the outside of the drawn-and-ironed can, is plated with a ductile metal, such as tin, nickel, zinc or aluminum. This steel sheeting coated with a polyester resin film can be used in a simple manner to produce a drawn-and-ironed can which has excellent corrosion resistance with respect to contents of the can, such as carbonated beverages and fruit juices. In addition, the abovementioned drawn-and-ironed can can be used without internal coating after shaping.
