PURPOSE:To provide a sintered friction material which does not cause seizing and makes little abnormal noise during sliding movement against a frictional surface and has excellent initial sliding properties, prepd. by forming a phosphate film and an MoS2 film on the surface of a specified sintered iron alloy. CONSTITUTION:A sintered iron alloy is prepd. by adding 0.2-0.8wt% graphite and 0.5-6wt% MoS2 to an alloy steel consisting of 0.4-1wt% Mn, 0.8-1.25wt% Cr, 0.15-0.35wt% Mo and the balance of iron and sintering the formed iron alloy at 1,100-1,200 deg.C in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, followed by cooling. The iron alloy is soaked in a mixed soln. of phosphate of a divalent metal and orthophosphoric acid, treated at 90-100 deg.C for 10-15min, washed with hot water and dried to form a phosphate film in the thickness of 0.5-30g/m<2> on the surface. A coating soln. contg. a liquid organic binder obtained by dispersing 10- 30wt% MoS2 which has a purity of 99% or higher and in which particles with a diameter of 50mu or smaller account for 85% or higher, is applied over the phosphate film, followed by baking to form a 3-20mu thick film of MoS2.
|
