PURPOSE:To promote the alloying of >=2 kinds of noble metals and to deposit the alloy on a carrier by using aq. hydrogen peroxide as a reaction accelerator in the title method for preparing a catalyst wherein alcohol is used as a reducing agent, and noble metal ions are mainly deposited as noble metal particles on the carbon powder as a carrier. CONSTITUTION:In the method for preparing a catalyst used mainly for the carbon electrode of a fuel cell, H2PtCl6 and RuCl3, for example, are dissolved in an aq. soln. of the methanol, etc., as a reducing agent to incorporate the noble metal ions of Pt and Ru, aq. hydrogen peroxide is further added, the carbon powder such as carbon black is then added, and the particles of the alloyed Pt and Ru are deposited on the surface of the carbon powder as a carrier. By this method, the oxidation potential of methanol is increased, and the characteristic of the fuel electrode as a methanol fuel cell catalyst is improved. |
