PURPOSE: To suppress the growth of weeds on a field of corn, wheat or barley by applying a herbicide composed of bromoxynil and other compound as active components to the field after germination, thereby achieving excellent herbicidal effect and residual soil activity at a low rate of application by the synergistic action of the components. CONSTITUTION: Bromoxynil [3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile], its agriculturally permissible salt or ester known as an agent for the control of weeds on the field of corn, wheat, etc., after germination is used in combination with a 3benzoylpiperidine-2,4-dione derivative of the formula (both of R<1> and R<2> are H or CH3 ; R<3> is NO2 and R<4> is Cl or CF3 or R<3> is Cl or NO2 and R<4> is methylsulfonyl) known as a preemergence or post-emergence herbicide such as 3-(4-chloro-2-nitrobenzoyl)-6,6-dimethylpiperidine-2,4-dione or its agriculturally permissible salt as active components. The weight ratio of (the former component):(the latter component) is 14:1 to 1:3.3. |
