PURPOSE: To effectively treat/prevent animal liver abscess supposed to be mainly caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum, a kind of Gram-negative bacterium, by administering a relevant animal with a therapeutically effective amount of an antibiotic in the virginiamycin group. CONSTITUTION: Liver abscess found in beef cattle or dairy cattle, supposed to be mainly caused by the above-mentioned Gram-negative bacterium is effectively treated/prevented by administering (pref. orally, esp. in the form of animal feed composition) a relevant animal with an antibiotic in the birginiamycin group, prep, mikamycin, osterogrycin, patricin, pristinamycin, streptogramin, synergistin, vernamycin, virginiamycin or its factor (esp. factor M). Furthermore, combined adminstration of the above antibiotic with an ionophore group antibiotic (esp. monensin or lasalocid) affords synergistic effect. |
