NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic substance A-221 expressed by the formula. USE:Useful as an agricultural germicide and nematocide, used by blending a carrier (e.g. talc), surfactant, dispersant or adjuvant, etc., employed in normal agricultural formulations and preparing a formulation in the form of a dust, etc., capable of exhibiting effects on plant disease injuries caused by imperfect fungi, such as blast of rice plant, leaf mold of tomato or damping-off of flax, especially treating effects on suppression of lesions created by hyphae entering plant tissues and further effective against root-knot nematode, Bursaphalenchus lignicolus, etc., in soil. PREPARATION:A microorganism, belonging to the genus Streptomyces and capable of producing the A-221 is cultured to collect the A-221 from the culture to afford the compound expressed by the formula. The culture is preferably carried out at 27-32 deg.C temperature and about neutral pH of the culture medium for 2-4 days by using a spinner culture method with aeration. |
