A conveyer for use in the manufacture of laminated glass windscreens comprises a pair of laterally-spaced endless chains 22 on which are mounted alternate sets of supports for supporting respectively the lower and upper glass sheets of the assembly, each set of supports comprising at least four supports. As shown, there are provided sets of six supports 38 for supporting the lower sheet of an assembly, three on each of the chains 22, each support 38 having a rubber top portion 40, and intermediate sets of four supports 42, two on each of the chains 22, each support 42 having a rubber top portion 44 which engages the edge portions of the sheet G and is inclined downwardly towards the centre of the sheet. A pair of stationary supports 50, each coated with a rubber sheet 51, is positioned at the loading end of the conveyer to facilitate the loading of the glass sheets on to the supports 38 or 42. In operation, upper and lower sheets of glass G are positioned on the supports 50 in alternate sequence are manually lowered on to the appropriate sets of supports 38 or 42. An operator then places a sheet of plastic material on the lower sheet as the latter travels along the conveyer, after which the upper sheet is lifted manually from the support 42 and placed on top of the plastic sheet which is positioned on the lower glass sheet, after which excess plastic material is trimmed away from the edges of the assembly. Cross-bars 32 are connected between two chains 22 and carry brushes 52 which travel over the surface of a table on which the trimmings of plastic material collect and sweep these trimmings away. A stationary brush 54 is provided on the conveyer framework to remove trimmings adhering to the lower runs of the chains 22. |
