An energy saving method, for controlling an apparatus which gives determined processes to work pieces supplied intermittently, which provides for the saving of energy during the period from when the work pieces separate from the apparatus until the arrival of a subsequent work piece, comprises the steps of (a) accepting data indicating the supply interval of the work piece, (b) fore casting a foreseen pause time, (c) executing the arithmetic operation of subtracting a value corresponding to the preparation time reauired for the appratus, and (d) separating the foreseen value from the time when the work piece separates from the apparatus.
