Method and apparatus for applying substantially-impermeable conformable film to application surface of an article which may have one or more depressions therein. The article is placed in a first pressure chamber which is sealed from a second pressure chamber by the film. After both pressure chambers are substantially evacuated, the second pressure chamber is pressurized such that the film is distended into the first pressure chamber and intimately conformed to the surface of the article. The film and article are then bonded together.
